    centrifugal filter for 2.4

    I noticed yesterday when I looked at part numbers that Ford fitted a centrifugal filter to transit 2.4 ( and 3.2)from 2007 to 2012?.

    I just wondered if anyone with a 2.4 has retrofitted a centrifugal filter or if it is possible. It would seem that the hardware must be there.

    The filter is the same as a TD5.
    IMHO they are great things to have.

    i have the transit engine in my defer and it has the centrifugal filter same part as TD5. Not sure if it can be retro fitted. might be worth looking at the transit set up and compare if its just a blocked off pipe etc on the Puma 2.4 or no common parts around the filter.

    Forgive my ignorance, but filter of what? Air, oil, fuel?

    TD5/Mann-Hummel centrifugal bypass oil filter.

    The most effective oil filter fitted to a production engine.

    Geez I was beginning to think that all Defender 2.4 owners are Latte sippers!(notwithstanding the requirement for beards)

    Common sense would suggest that the blocks are the same but maybe the ancillaries are different, but I doubt it.

    My understanding is the centrifuge lives where the stubby holder is on the engine cover

    From a thread I vaguely recall from Def2 forum although the centrifuge is installed on certain transit models there were changes made to the sump/pickup/oil pump to ensure lubrications on off-road angles that precluded the inclusion of the centrifuge plumbing on the defender 2.4

    The Oil passage in the head are missing on the defender 2.4 meaning retro-fitting a centrifuge is not simple

    I still wonder whether a centrifugal filter would improve the life span of a 2.4/2.2

    Sorry i didn't see this post. Roverrescue is correct, it is were the pie warmer is on the inlet manifold. It has a screw on cap and the filter sits in the depression. My mechanic had to take the inlet manifold off to clean it. i'll ask if he noticed any differences between the Ford transit engine and the LR2.4 AFAIK the only modification LR made to the engine for off road use was to baffling in the sump. Not heard that the oil galleries are different but clearly the absence of a filter on the LR engine suggests there are some differences to the oiling.
