Thread: Front Diff Destruction..

Looks like a CW has loosened off, snapped on something and done the rest of the damage.

I'd just replace it all or any parts if there haven't been any problems with the standard setup - otherwise its a great excuse and timing for upgrades if you decide you need/want a locker or whatever.

I really don't think the CW/P is a problem unless you've broken one before, the shrapnel parts there just look like colateral damage to a loosed and then snapped CW bolt to me.

Maybe just loctite would be the upgrade you need.

That front diff will be cactus. If you've snapped one bolt I'd be replacing all 10 of them as well as the crown wheel and pinion, and bearings. Best option in my opinion replace the complete diff, at least they are cheap and plentiful.

And replace it with a 4 pinion one.

I finally got around to pulling the diff out and it seems two crown gear bolts managed to work themselves out they've then been slowly chewed up by the diff housing and also chewed a few teeth off. Not only that the pinion bearing has also been damaged at some point (I'm guessing it took some shrapnel)

So now it's time to mull over a few drinks and work out my options... to ATB or not to ATB that is the question

I was thinking of rebuilding but with the housing damage I just don't think it's worth the effort and time...

The housing will be fine, I think Ive got a spare crown wheel / pinion and carrier in perfect condition if you want to get out of it cheap. But personally I'd be putting an ATB in there.
