Yeah, I know. The title was click bait.
... But hear me out.
I know there would be a few people here who know of Jose Amorim's excellent work with the TD5 (and his internet/facebook fame).
I also know that there would be a few of those few people who are constantly jealous watching him scoot around the UK fitting his VNT/Hybrid turbos and Maps.
Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Screw those bloody poms getting all the attention!
How many remaps/installs would it take to make a trip to Australia economical for Jose Amorim?
Would anyone be interested?
Cheers!

SupporterIs there actually that much interest in remapping td5's anymore?
That's a genuine question too, I would have thought the demand would have dropped somewhat, thinking that most that wanted to do it already have....I'd love to know..
Cheers

Supporterplenty of good tuners in aust. why do we need one from overseas?

Because his prices are good and he knows how to tune them!
If you remap a TD5 (or Any other diesel engine) you will use more fuel and you will kill the engine quicker, Maybe you Mob should have bought a V8 if you need more Grunt in your D2

SupporterWould a remapped td5 die any quicker than a v8?
The v8 might SEEM to last longer due to the amount of fuel it could consume in it's lifetime...
Bit like vegetarians FEELING like they live longer.
Whilst theoretically a remapped engine is under more stress, if looked after and egt and coolant temperature are monitored, it should still last well.
Problem areas on a td5 would be the turbo and exhaust manifold and keeping the entire thing cool,
After that other problems such as the auto come into play,
however if most of the time engine is used it isn't put into harsh service like towing and the like, it won't ever get much outside of the normal mapping parameters from factory.
As to fuel use: yep, you can't make more power without more fuel, UNLESS of course the manufacturer tuned the thing wrong to start with, which doesn't happen ,
if it does seem to happen it's usually only as a function of fuel quality and EU emissions requirements at the time, in this instance , things like timing may not be optimal----Some very small gains are to be had with timing on a td5.
But as regards the rest, there is nothing that can be done to make more power with less fuel.
The ONLY caveat to this is auto lockup, if you have a remapped engine, it's less likely to drop out of lockup when power requirements increase, staying in lockup is healthy for both the auto and fuel use generally speaking.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

I know the line is out but I'll bite anyway.... I'll give you a bit of background on my D2 first. It has a hybrid turbo, larger intercooler, 23 psi boost and centre muffler delete. They are the only performance upgrades. I also have 4.11 gears with 33 inch tyres, a bull bar, winch, rock sliders, steel roof rack, 270 degree awning, set of steel draws in the back, dual battery up front and a lithium in the back. So I'm probably what you would say on the heavy side
.
But on a recent trip to Mansfield on a 38 degree day with air con running I managed to still get 10.5 litres per 100 while cruising. Not bad for a D2 with 366 000 km on the clock.Sorry I also forgot to mention I have some shiny blue silicon intercooler hoses and a boost box.
Around town I probably get closer to 14 litres per 100, but I do have a bit of a lead foot. So what is my point? I really don't know.
Oh I know... it'll be as quick as you're V8 and use a shoit load less fuel. But I will finish with this. Make sure you have an egt gauge and some sort of engine watch dog!
Enjoy the boost!
I still miss the sound of my V8 Disco though.
