2nd battery - under drivers seat? (Defender)

My passenger seat has the battery in it (naturally) but also a pile of other electrical doohickeys and moving all those would be a MAJOR job. Fitting two batteries in there is tight at the best of times.

Has anyone put their auxiliary battery under the drivers seat, and how did you wire it in (ie cable routing) ?

Battery choice would also be a question.

I have a Traxside SC-40 (still in it's box LOL).

Dual batteries owuld be handy for if vehicle is off and if winching needed (I'll be fitting one of those)
I'd also want to be running a CPAP, led lights, and a fridge etc overnight without worrying about not having enough hjuice in the starting battery !

So working out a good battery choice is also important.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

it’s not good practice to winch with engine not running.

Under driver seat needs pretty big mods if you want to fit a full size starter or AGM......have a look and you’ll soon see the difference between passenger and drivers.

I found two batteries under the passenger a pain, relocated the AUX elsewhere.

I had two N70ZZ's under the passenger seat without moving anything.
There is a strip of timber to level the floor because from memory there is a step in it.

Came like this when I purchased 20 years ago, replaced the batteries then next time around I fitted a smaller deep cycle battery alongside the N70ZZ starter.
You do have to watch the terminal post at the front doesn't contact the lid when you re-fit it ! The smaller deep cycles have a flush post (if that makes sense) so no problem.

I'll take a photo when I get a chance but there's no room for a 2nd battery under with passenger seat the way all teh electric stuff is fitted.

@W&KO in the tube was the other place that I was thinking about, especially as that's where I intend to put my compressor so could wire that direct to that battery I suppose.

My concern was with the length of cabling required to battery and back and whether that would be a significant issue - I guess its not really THAT far though. Where did you run the cable?

Vlad, in this instance you Sir are a perfect candidate for a LiFePo4 battery.

Speak to Drivesafe (Tim), it will do everything you want and you can get big capacity under that seat in LiPo!

I've relocated all the electricals under the driver's seat to an Ex Box but I doubt that it would be easy to fit a second battery such as a Optima yellow top in there without significant massaging. I gave up and put the second battery in the slide on pod we use for camping and charge it from a Traxide box under the passenger seat. A lithium battery might be a goer though
