Thoughts?
As the Defender Puma swivel pin housing is bolted to the axle housing....has any one removed the entire swivel pin housing with the hub and disk rotor attached , just to replace the swivel pin seal and inner axle seal?
The wheel bearings are OK as they were recently repacked, so I can't see why I need to go to the effort of dismantling the hub again.

Yep, it can be done like that. I have found though that when my swivel seals are leaking it is often caused by loose swivel pin preload. Once i take a shim or two out it fixes the leak.
If your seals are leaking bad then you've probably done a lot of kilometres and it may it may be worth rebuilding the swivel housings anyway.

I haven't done that on a Defender, but I have on a Series - the only real issue is probably that the entire assembly is heavy, and particularly on the longer axle side, awkward.

SubscriberYes that method works just fine. Taking the weight on a trolley jack and rolling it out, rather than lifting, is the way to go if you're on a concrete floor.

The old girl has done 200,000 km since 2013,
I can use the hoist to lift the vehicle and a gearbox jack to take the weight of the hub assembly.
The seal is leaking enough to wet the swivel ball, and as i have a trip to Fraser Island in June I want the ball to be dry so it wont attract sand and cut the sealing edge.
Might repack the swivel housing bearings while I have the wheel off too....
