How to get to the headlight adjust motor?

    Greetings from the Vic goldfields!

I did not know this before but there seems to be some kind of motor to the rear of the headlights (2006 TD5 Defender). On the right side mine sounds like a loud relay brrrr-ing when the lights are on and the engine is off. Maybe the same with engine on but I can't hear that over the gentle hum of the TD5.

If I try contorting my arm to get to that motor/relay thing and move it with fingertips then the brrrr-ing changes pitch. So I'd like to have a look and see why this is so. But how to get to it? I guess I could remove the power steering reservoir and try to get down there somehow. BTW, my headlights have factory protectors with 4 black plastic looks like screw covers.

I had it in front of the garage yesterday and tried the adjustment switch but there seems to be no movement of the bean either left or right side.

Any suggestions on how to reach that darn thingy and what may be wrong?

    Thanks!

Me too. I had not noticed that switch inside, it is the one on the right. But electronic? Seems some kind of motor that tilts the headlight housing...when using the switch

If it's like my 2010 110, it has a servo motor that adjusts the headlight up/down via a 3 position dash switch. It's meant to allow the driver to manually compensate for vehicle load and resulting headlight angle.

Again on mine, it's all accessed from the front. You remove the headlight trim, then the headlight assembly, and the servo comes out with the headlight.

    Assuming that's what you mean?

Doing any sort of head light thing on a Defender, its easier to go in from the front, head light out.
