Thread: Cavity wax for corrosion prevention in bulk head?

Hi all

Thanks to everyone who gave advice on my Defender hinges.

Someone suggested treating the cavity while the hinges are off which I think is a great idea.

I don't have access to a compressor and the vehicle can't be driven with no doors... but I still want to do something.

I don't have a high pressure gerni but have used the jet function on the garden hose and that's given it a good clean out. It seems to be in pretty good nick in there, considering the vehicle is approaching its 21st birthday...

So should I treat it with something? The guy at the auto paint shop sold me a can of something called "Cavity Wax" (pictured). Has anyone had any experience with this stuff? Should I use something else?

My main concern is although the treatment may slow corrosion to begin with, after time it can actually catch dust and mud thereby worsening it. Obviously it's not easy to get in there to clean it out once the sticky stuff in on!

Its a Valvoline product,and dries as a sort of wax.

It can be brushed on nice and thick if you want,or spray onto the hard to reach places.

I have just done the underneath of the D4,it was last done around 5yrs ago.

But that wax maybe just as good?

Tectyl is pretty expensive.

Thanks scarry, sounds like could be similar stuff. 5 yrs is pretty good if it didn’t cause any additional problems.
