TD5 Front Crankshaft Seal Replacement - Seal Depth

I am changing the front crankshaft seal on my 99 TD5. I made the mistake of not referencing the existing seal and just remove the seal. I was wondering if pressing the seal until it is flush with the front face of the front cover is good enough? RAVE doesn't mention where the seal should sit. THanks.

I changed my front seal during one of my harmonic balancer replacements ( because I could and because of the mileage I had on the engine ) and I just flush fitted it.

I'm an engineering tradesperson and have never not fitted flaseals or lipseals flush.

 That doesn't mean I'm right.

 Cheers Dennis
