    Td5 clutch: dual mass or single?

    My 06 td5 130 is just about to clock over 200,000kms and the clutch is starting to slip in taller gears under load.
    I haven’t checked anything much yet but I figure even if it’s something else causing slip, I may as well put a clutch in at those k’s.

    Question is: new DM flywheel or convert to SM? I’ve looked at a few threads on here (search function isn’t the best really) but they’re mostly quite old.
    Anyone been running single mass for 10 years+?

    I’ve been looking at the LOF Performance SMF kit as it looks to be a well researched piece of kit and there are very good reviews from UK hill climbers like Bowler etc. I can get it landed here for a few hundred less than a HD UK made DMF from a local supplier.

    My 130 does some heavy work at times and I get out on the tracks and tour this corrugated land, loaded to GVM, when I’m allowed to....
    She’s pretty stock now but I’ll remap it soon.

    I’m also going change the LT 230 whilst I’m at it as it’s still holding together but getting steadily noisier.

    Buy a local DMF kit, local support, local warranty if required, and the money helps our local economy.
    There is nothing wrong with the standard arrangement, I would leave it as it left the factory.
    The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
    The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

    dual mass flywheel.. how loose is to loose?

    Well, after some consultation and much consideration, I went for a LOF HD (not the race spec) clutch and SM flywheel replacement.

    Due to the transfer box being so noisy and needing work, I picked up a 2nd hand one from a disco 1 with the idea of re shimming and re sealing it as part of the clutch job.
    Unfortunately, due to work and family commitments I couldn’t take the truck off the road to do the job so ended up getting Bruce Davis to do the lot whilst driving one of his loan cars for work.

    I’m really happy with the clutch setup and my slave cylinder was leaking too so Bruce put the LOF one in with the spring kit. The pedal’s almost too light now!
    No vibration or issues that apparently go along with standard SMF conversions, at this stage. I figure if Bowler can run them in big hp hill climbers, it should go ok in mine!
    I’ll keep you all posted anyway.

    I think the 2nd hand transfer paid off, as it’s nice and quiet and with the taller gear ratio the 130 gets off the line quite a bit quicker too.
    I’ve kept the old transfer box and intend to reco it myself at some point.

    Bruce and his crew did a good job in good time and kept me informed. Bit of a mission driving out to Windsor though!

    Good to meet Bruce and I also the guys from KLR whilst there and got a spin in a super grunty defender ute. Td5 clutch: dual mass or single?Td5 clutch: dual mass or single?

    Interesting coincidence, as I just got my LOF Extreme SMF clutch kit fitted and I am also very happy with it.

    Huh? wha? JC I have a 2007 model onwards Defender, can I fit a duel mass flywheel from a Ford Transit?

    I just went with the mid range clutch not extreme.
    Did you get the pedal spring as well? I feel like my pedal is almost too light!

    Mine's good but I've got the taller gear ratio from D1 in it now and it feels underpowered with the long gaps between gears and she runs out of puff up hill. I'm going to wind the boost up tomorrow morning and see what happens until i can afford a remap.
    i had the BAS remap in my 110; it was sick. sometimes i miss the puma but my wallet doesn't!

    I have the old style Landrover spring (300TDI) on my pedal assembly, but I also have a Redbooster fitted and the clutch pedal still feels quite heavy. My d5 has a BASVNT turbo and is heavily remapped by Bruce Davis. This clutch really complements my setup better than I thought. I see you are on the Central Coast. If you are interested, we could catch up and compare.

    Are you on the Central Coast too?
    I’m at Bensville and definitely keen to catch up and compare.
    Because I changed the transfer box for a taller ratio, it’s a bit hard to compare before and after with the clutch.

    Bruce did the new LOF spring and slave cylinder also as mine was leaking.

    I’m thinking about heading up to Stockton early this Saturday morning for a few hours with a couple of mates (non in LR’s) so if you’re keen, you could join us?
    If not we’ll make a time to catch up.
