    Something to check

My 2.2 Puma 130 tried to eat its air filter yesterday in some pretty heavy rain.
The warnings were loss of power and engine check light coming on, fortunately I was near somewhere that had some diagnostic gear which pointed to an air sensor
After removing the air filter cover the filter was damp/wet and bits of paper were stuck in the sensor I tried to clean the sensor as best I could and drive without the air filter but still check light and lack of power.
I’ve ordered a new sensor and hope this will solve the problem, while fiddling around in the air box I noticed the drain was blocked something I will pay more attention to in the future
I have a Mantec snorkel which is where the water got in, I fitted the snorkel in 2013 more for dusty conditions as I would use a bridge or Ford to get across a river
Starting to wonder if snorkels are really necessary or just gimmicks like freewheeling hubs on Series vehicles

Which snorkel head do you have?
The common one has provision for rain water to flow out of the head in rain. Maybe yours are blocked like your filter duckbill, both of which would cause water to accumulate inside the filter housing
To answer your question IMO a snorkel can help with dust and deep water if installed correctly

New sensor, air filter and a few assorted bits for my 2a arrived today, hand delivered by Steve and Lee from British Auto Parts who happened to be coming to Bemm for a holiday
Had a good chat to them these guys really love their Land Rovers and are far more knowledgeable than me
Phil b I will check the rain head on the snorkel tomorrow when I go back to the vehicle to fit the sensor and give an update, thanks for the heads up

Sensor and new air filter fitted all good again, engine icon on gauge went out on its own.
I pulled the head off the snorkel and there doesn’t seem to be any baffle to stop water getting in, the snorkel connects to a Nugget Stuff air box so it’s all a bit of a mystery why things happened

I’m not sure how rain would get into that snorkel.
Is the connecting tube between the snorkel and air box OK?
