    2014 puma sump frame crack

    Hi brains trust,

I am having my clutch replaced on my 2014 130 and have found a crack in my upper sump frame (LR029913), it doesn't leak oil, not sure what would have caused it or if its common. I was wondering if anyone knows if this is interchangeable with the ford counterpart.

    Thanks Tom

It's an interesting place to crack. Is it possible the bolt directly beside the crack has been overtorqued and that is the cause. Could landrover be at fault and may they share the cost of replacement?

You are right, the links work but there are no photos, but I put them up to show the listed price. The part number is listed as "STIFFENER - ENGINE BLOCK"".

...if it was a factory install, they'd all be using torque limited guns for it... good luck trying to convince them the production line was faulty.
(All the 'faulty' manpower is consumed on installing things like LT230 leaks, driveline backlash, and panel gaps)

The reason I ask is because the vehicle is only seven years old. We had a Holden Captiva who's transmission sump completely fractured(two years out of warranty). I contacted Holden and explained that whilst I didn't expect them to pay for the entire cost of replacement it seemed only fair that they share the cost as it was clearly a manufacturing fault. They asked me to send the vehicle over and they would assess. I received a call the next day advising they had pulled it apart, determined it was a manufacturing fault and would pay for the entire replacement. I was amazed at the service as I expected the usual fob off.
That's why I think it's well worth approaching L.R as it seems a highly unusual failure and whilst you don't expect them to pay for the entire replacement it would be reasonable to both parties for the cost to be shared.
Back in 2017 the ACCC gave Holden a bit of a serve and Holden became a lot more proactive in responding to customer requests. L.R have also been in the spotlight with the ACCC, give it a go what have you to lose??
