Diff centre compatability with defender 90

I did myself a mischief and rooted two diffs on my 90. These are the rover style 24 spline units with the single pin.
I'm on the scrounge for some replacement centers until I can get something a little stronger.

What's the good oil on replacements? Which models had this diff? Is there any hard and fast rules, or variants that I need to be wary of?

    Hey Mitch,
I think everything as far back as a 300 TDI disco 1 had the 24 spline rover diff.
So that would be D1 and D2 and Def 90 (front and rear) and the front of a Def 110.
The only thing I vaguely remember was that the D2s possibly had a different method of staking the pin.
As far as I know they should all be as good (or as bad!) as each other if you're just after a stop-gap.

    Cheers for that.
Visually the ones I'm looking at are very similar, same centers, there are some minor differences with the casting on the carrier.

I've got options for the next diff, either going to go wild with a conversion or just get some beefed up pegged and locked ashcroft units. But need the car mobile first!

Classic RR from somewhere around 1990 were 24-spline also. You shouldn't have any trouble tracking down a useable 24-spline Rover diff.

I think it was Dougal who noted that in the changeover period some RRCs had 10 spline at one end and 24 at the other. Was very rare though.
