    Drivers Door Card Removal

    Hi All,

I was removing some window tint off the front windows and dropped a steel razor inside the aluminum door skin. It's inside the section below the window (not between the door card/inside metal section). I could get the card separated at the base but razor didn't drop out so I'm guessing its inside the door frame section.

The razor isn't rattling inside the door but I'm a a bit concerned about a reacting between the steel and aluminum so want to get the razor out.

How do you totally remove a door card?

First the window winder. Push in the plastic surround and look for the spring clip that holds the winder in place. Take care pulling it away at it may fly. You might get some slim pliers in but I've used wire with a loop to hook the clip.
Next the door lock button surround. It's a fiddle getting it off. Use a small screwdriver to prize out the bit that clips it in place.
    Unscrew the door handle.
Gently, starting at the bottom, pull the card away. It's held in place with a bunch of plastic pegs that tend to break with age. There's also a button in the corner. Prise it out with side cutters or push in the plastic pin (but you may lose it).
Lastly, lift the card up and away. It hooks over the top of the door frame.

The whole job is a fiddle.

Frankly, I wouldn't bother for a razor blade. The door is an aluminium skin on a steel frame anyway.

All the door skins and the bonnet on my Puma Defender are steel. Check yours with a magnet. So if galvanic corrosion is the main worry then don't worry. That will save you the angst and the painful procedure.

Thanks for the responses. I'll have a fiddle next time I'm doing anything on the vehicle.

I thing I have left a bit of tint (or adhesive) at the very bottom of the glass so I can at least check that. I'll check the door drain holes and bottoms of doors for gunk while I'm at it.

    Cheers
