    '02 Td5 110 won't crank over

    Hi Guys,
    My '02 Td5 110 was working fine 2 days ago. Today has power to the dashboard, showing all the usual pre-start lights, but then turning the key to III nothing. Sometimes hear repeated clicking like a flat battery, sometimes hear relays kicking in / out, sometimes hear primary fuel pump (albeit faint; not as noisy). No starter motor and no engine cranking.
    Battery is good. Checked, removed / reinstalled all relays (under seat & on lower firewall). Checked fuses, all good. Pressed inertia switch few times. Checked earth points, all good. Removed / re-installed fuel pump regulator connection. Checked crank angle sensor cable, no damage.
    After all that, turn key to III and still nothing, stony silence, no starter motor and no cranking of engine.
    I'm thinking dead ignition switch; or dead ECU; or dying - dead primary fuel pump;
    Any other suggestions I can try before getting an auto-sparky to take a look. Any guess what the cause might be? p.s. I don't have nanocom or multi-meter.
    cheers,

    Could be a number of things.

    One of the common failures is the solenoid on the starter, generally it still Clicks though and someone outside the car listening underneath would pick up on it pretty easy.

    Relays in the seat box and the secondary power take offs on the battery positive would be worth investigating as well.

    Cheers
    James

    As a follow up. Solenoid on the starter was faulting and an earth cable was chaffing / faulting. Both replaced / repaired. Battery was holding 12.1V at best, apparently nearing end of life, so replaced with new. Engine started pretty quickly. All seems back to normal. Fingers crossed.
