Help please. Will a 200tdi idle when the cable is off and the injector pump lever is resting on the stop screw? Ive just swapped out my 200tdi for another unit (long story) but i will not idle. If i manually adjust the top lever as in jam it half open on the pump, the engine runs fine. It revs fine and very little smoke. I’ve ordered a new cable as the thats on it is 50cm to long and is just a big loop! I can also get the engine to run if i hold down the throttle fully on the pedal. But as soon as I lift half off, she slows until it finally stalls. Or i depress and up she revs again. Any suggestions, greatly appreciated.
Thank you for the reply. Means its something else then. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Tried the fresh fuel in a bottle to pump to eliminate tank. No difference. Have put a load of diesel cleaner through the pump too. New filter, new lift pump. Back to the drawing board.
Ive replaced the original engine with another unit.
Hello Grant
Sorry I can't help with your idle problem.
It sounds as though something is sticking in the fuel delivery system.
I purchased that Defender unregistered so never drove it any distance.
I only ever drove it round the block a couple of times and had no engine issues at all.
I used to start it up regularly and run it for 15 minutes or so to keep the battery charged.
I have a low Km 200tdi in my shed out of a 93 Discovery I am planning to sell soon, but I believe the timing casing is slightly different.
Regards
David
