Thread: LT230 Noisy - teeth worn?

Hi brainstrust. I selected low range recently and and the drivetrain sounded different to normal (louder, slightly angry?) and so I decided to take a peek at the fluid level of the TC. Oil was at or slightly below the plug when car was parked level.

What was concerning however was the appearance of the few visible teeth. They looked to have chamfered edges which can be seen in the linked photos. I also noted that approximately the first 5mm of thread appeared discoloured due to heat.

I don’t have any reference so I was hoping that others here might be able to let me know if what I’m seeing is normal or should it be getting investigated further. thanks!

EDIT: In high range there is no change in noise or function.
