TD5 anti stall/ Hill start assist

Is there any legitimate call for these technologies?

I'm usually in an auto so never worried too much about it, I recently had a bit of a play with limited success, I think I posted on here about it a little.

I'm now in possession of a 110 TD5 and have been having a Tinker, so it got me thinking about anti stall...

Does anyone on here think it's necessary or that it would even be a nice addition?

    Cheers

I have a TD5 Defender that has been tuned by Jose.
I know everyone says a TD5 doesn't have anti stall but there is something that happens where if you touch the throttle it behaves very differently
If you just take your foot off of the clutch it just proceeds up to the limitations of the engine it if I touch the throttle it changes and more revs are required to move
I find it very useful while not in 4bd1 territory its pretty good.

I did read somewhere the the Land Rover Experience instructors had dubbed this (ironically) as an anti-stall feature so long as the driver keeps their right foot away from the accelerator when engaging the clutch. The ECU will attempt to maintain a constant tick over speed by introducing more fuel.

So long since I have driven a standard TD5 I don't know what they have

    Hi Duane,

Thanks for the reply, for sure the engine has a coping mechanism for avoiding stall,

I guess I'm looking to enhance that, today I had it pointed up an extremely step hill, you steep to drive up, and with the mods I've done (in low range) lt basically had all 4 wheels spinning/slipping without any touch of the throttle, I was pretty impressed!

I'd also be interested in the experiences of anyone without any kind of aftermarket tune.

    Cheers

I often use the anti stall in my Td5 Defender, even around town when I'm idling up to a red traffic light.

Interestingly mine is infinitely more noticeable when cold
Ie the touching of the throttle leading to a lack of progress no throttle no problem

That's a little unusual, I'll give it some thought...
