Thread: LT230 ATB fitting

Hey,

Just wondering how much force it should take to turn the output flanges after fitting an ATB (with new bearings) - I have replaced all the bearings in the box, and adjusted according to the spring balance method (it was around 3kg pulling from the bit between the gears) but now after putting the REAR output housing on, the flanges are quite hard to turn and I'm wondering if this has somehow changed the preload on the bearings. (or is 3kg too much to begin with?)

The flanges are hard to turn with box in neutral, turning the intermediate gears is quite easy and free, so the issue is with the centre diff assembly.

I made sure the race was pressed in at least 1mm (it was about 1.2mm I think) from the surface of the housing.

Before fitting the rear output housing, I was getting a total reading of about 6-6.5kg (which is within spec according to the manual) around the input shaft with high range engaged.

I ended up taking the front output housing off again while leaving the rear housing on, then calculated the preload again. Not sure why it made a difference but the readings were totally different with the rear output housing on. Ended up feeling really nice, and easy to turn by hand.
