Thread: Stub axle wear on hub

I don't know much about hubs and stubs(other than having renewed my bearings and stubs on my D1(same type) ... but looking at the image of the wear mark on the stub, looks more like a manufacturing defect in the form of a high spot that interfered with the hub.

If the worn bearing were to cause interference between hub and stub, you'd think that the metal to metal contact patch would be a circular one all round(or partly all way around .. or whatever) ... not just the one small spot as in your image.

Either warn bearings or loose bearings. Did you notice a soft brake pedal at all? If the bearings are loose, the hub will wobble, causing the brake disc to wobble and push pads back/pistons back into caliper.

Replace bearings can cups as they will be contaminated

The stub axle may also need to be replaced if there is groove warn on the surface where the hub seal sits.

Looks like the stub has been already been speedi sleeved?

Don't they all look like that after some miles on 'em?

I replaced all four on my D1 just after getting it(preventative, and one noisy bearing) and all four had the same bearing marking on them to a degree. Some more than others but all 'faced' with the inner bearing race in the same manner.

Was more looking at where the hub seal runs……could be wrong, hard to see.

It looks like that to me too, and the weird wear is due to the sleeve not being seated home flush.

It wouldn't be easy getting a sleeve that big perfectly flush outside of using a machine shop.

Inner bearing inner cone has been spinning on the stub as well for some reason........... lack of lube in the hub, incorrect adjustment or dud bearing.
