Thread: Puma Defender Clutch Slave Cylinder

When ours failed I had Les Richmond’s(Thomastown Vic) change ours and also did the clutch at the same time as it’s a gearbox out job. They told me the at the replacement slave and associated piping had been upgraded later in the production run so fitted the newer system/parts.

I thought it must be a "gearbox out" job as I couldn't find the slave cylinder externally. I'm hoping my diagnosis is right but I'm also pretty sure it is.

If you dont want to wait for parts then find a repairer that stocks the needed bits. Which also gives you an idea that they have done plenty of them.
I buy the below listed bits generally 20 at a time.

I replace as a minimum:
Clutch kit (whatever brand you prefer) (shameless plug: ClutchFix)
LR068979 Cylinder - Clutch Slave (FTE)
LR068981 Adapter (genuine)
LR068982 Valve - Control (genuine)

LR032880 Also being a 2.4 you can replace the Crankshaft position sensor rubbish heat shield with the later 2.2 shield
LR052893 Also fit the 2 shift assembly alignment collars.
Also mod the diff lock assembly so it doesnt plop out of diff lock on every bump

etc etc... so much more to do right

I'm way over here in W.A ... but hey don't let that stop you I'm doing a Defender TDCi clutch and adaptor shaft this week from QLD

To be fair though... surely there are dam good indy Land Rover repairers somewhere over that way.
