Just a heads-up.
A few weeks ago my transfer box self-annihilated.
All fixed now with a new box (thanks to Glen and Pete at Roving Mechanical).
There was some speculation about the cause and we think a failed bearing probably instigated it. The reason we believe this is that the high-pitched whine at 100km/h is not present now. (I thought the whine was normal and that I could hear it as a result of recently installed hearing aids)
So if your transmission whines its not your hearing aids so get it checked out.

Hmmmm! My transfer case (LT95) has been whining for over 500,000km, since it failed at 100,000 (Problems with intermediate gear). Seems to be getting less, but maybe that is because I need hearing aids?
