All the previous old Defender Special Vehicles have been second hand, build from about 2012. This is because no old Defender, even if re manufactured meets 2020 - 23 UK rego specs. So these 2012 vehicles are purchased back and rebuilt etc and sold as "new" vehicles with Vins from around 2012 so they do not have to meet 2022 emissions and safety requirements.
one of the large LR tuners in the UK bought 100 defenders new off the production line in 2016(ish) and put them in storage. There was an article in LRO mag with a pic of a massive shed of new defenders lined up inside. They are converting to whatever is the customer spec, mostly LS conversions. I think they have converted around 40 since end of production. In 2016 100 new defenders would have been a big purse. In 2022, the cost to buy those same defenders would buy you a castle and maintain it for a generation.
