Smile 2.4tdci Defender 90 engine number

    Hi All,
I need to find the engine number on my 90. I've looked at youtube etc and haven't found anyone that shows where it is. Has anyone actually sited a number on a 2.4 and if so where is it. Driving myself mad here any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers Pagey

should be on the drivers side of the block, low, just in front of the engine mount and tucked under the turbo if i remember correct. we had to use a scope with light to locate it and a phone to take pic. remember there was some contortion to get phone at right distance to focus.

No, it's on the drivers side at the rear of engine, below the crankshaft position sensor, remove the turbo heat shield. There is a flat rectangle part of cast, BUT the numbers are done very fine with a series of dots (vertical) and almost impossible to read. polish the surface with very fine emery paper, then colour the surface with a paint pen, wipe off while still wet, get your phone take a pic.
    Regards
