    Lower gearing in 130?

    G’day folks.

I just read in another forum (not AULRO) somebody claiming that the Puma 130 gearing is a bit lower than gearing on the 110, to account for towing and payload.

Having owned both vehicles (currently have a 130), I’m not convinced this is true. I thought the drive trains across 90, 110 and 130 were all pretty standard.

    Can anybody enlighten me?

    Cheers

    Alan

I cannot, but I'd be surprised if they were different.

I wouldn't think so, but if you climb under and have a look below the fill plug it should have the info on a sticker ( 1.211:1 ) is what I'd expect

No not different, all defenders have a 1.4/1 transfer case. I believe 90's may have a 1.22/1 .

Not all Defenders, TDCI have ( as previously mentioned ) a 1.211:1 fine gear, not the 1.222:1 which was early TDI and V8 Discovery.
1.4 is most defenders pre and including TD5

1.222:1 and 1.4:1 both have coarse gears and are interchangeable

The only 90 I can think of with a 1.2 ratio was the V8 50th anniversary auto and that was 1.211:1

As already mentioned the Defender TDCi (2007 - 2016, puma) uses a 1.211 the same as a D2
mated to the ford mt82 6 speed box gives it a great 1st low range but a tall 6th high range

it also sits more vertical and 70mm back than older Defender models
    Regards
