    Defender mirrors.

    I have a question, is there any way you can tighten the spring loading on the positioning arms? I am having problems with the arms staying steady. Yes I know the mirrors move a lot, and when I can get my shed built I will endeavour to make a few modifications, but I just need to know if there is a way I can add more preload on the spring where the arm connects to the bracket mounting plate.

    Are they genuine mirrors and arms? Some aftermarket ones have a slightly different ball diameter so the mirror isn't tight on the ball.

    Yes genuine, but they are the long ones. The arms flex, but that is another problem which will be looked at after, for now it is “can I put more preload on the spring? and if so how?”

    Do the arms really flex or is it the body mounting? I looked at the extended arms from the Perentie I think they'd support a truck!

    Mine look nothing like that. I bought them from Landybitz and they assured me that they were genuine. And they should have been gold plated at the price I was charged. Land Rover Defender/Series/Perentie Mirror Arm Large 11.5" (PAIR) Genuine
    Basically they are the same as the normal short ones but extended. The arm itself flexes. I even set up a camera to see where the flexing came from.

    Here is a view of the underside of the ‘original extended mirrors’ that I bought, absolutely NO re enforcement or webbing to strengthen it. I am wondering if it was genuine, anyway that’s irrelevant now, I just need to make them fit for purpose. My idea is to make an aluminium inner support to stop it twisting. BUT the need for the moment is to make them so as there is more preload between the arm and mounting bracket.

    No, what Jon has posted via the KLR link is the extended mirror arms for Perenties (Australian army vehicles) they are specific to Perenties like a lot of bits and pieces.

    Land Rover did do extended mirror arms and the part number you posted used to be valid.
    But as usual if you want to find a solution to a Land Rover problem, you need not look any further than AULRO...
