    VDO Fuel pump 110 Defender

    A big shout out to Rene Sigret at Landy Centre Cairns for diagnosing what I suspected was the cause of my lack of top end power in my 2005 TD5 Defender. Around 10 years ago, I installed an aftermarket in tank fuel pump, as my original was screaming like a banshee.
    Cut to 10 years later, no grunt going up hills. Mapped ECU, and all sensors fine, new MAF sensor. Fuel pressure measured at 30psi instead of the required 60psi. Enough pressure to get around town, ( I actually drove it up to Cape York and back last year like this) but no reserve for under load.
    I ordered an OEM fuel pump from the UK at what I thought was very cheap. Turns out it is for the pump itself, not the whole sender unit.
    Are these sender units difficult to seperate, and replace the pump in it? I did have my original unit lying around and just months ago binned it. Doh!!
    Going to remove my rear drawer, and cut an access portal so I don't have to drop the tank this time.
    Any advice welcome.

    Someone on here wrote a Td5 fuel pump assembly repair tutorial on here which I found quite helpful: TD5 fuel pump maintence and repair tutorial

    The only problem, I ran into when stripping down my spare pump assembly was to get the hose off the pump without damaging it (I noticed that some repair kits/pumps come with the hose though). Personally, I wouldn't dismantle my only pump without the replacement hose at hand.

    Hope that makes sense.
