    Defender windscreen rubber

I am wanting to obtain a good quality windscreen rubber for my 1996 Defender. Has anyone purchased parts from Rimmer Bros in the UK.

Don't know your whereabouts, but I recently got a good one from Karcraft in Sydney. Always good quality stuff and fast delivery.

    Location is Melbourne.
I purchased my new Defender in early 1996. In 2005 I had a stone chip repaired on the screen. Earlier this year a crack started to appear from the chip location and as I didn’t want this crack to go further. I took the landy back to the original repairer who said the chip could not be repaired again and a new screen was required. They used my original rubber which they said was in good condition.
Two weeks after the new screen was installed I left Melbourne and headed to Cooma for the 75th. Strangely every bug, stick etc, which came in contact with this new screen was quite loud by comparison to my old screen. On the way a small stone hit the screen on the driver’s side causing damage. The impact sounded like the screen was hit with a hammer. While at Cooma the landy leaked from around the screen for the first time ever. The next week I returned to my installer who said the screen was not roadworthy and a new one had to be fitted. I also told them about the sounds of bug impacts and the water leaking. They said it was an aftermarket screen from China and the leaking could have been because the screen is slightly thinner and this was the reason why I was more aware of screen impacts. Naively I thought I was getting quality (like for like) original type with my new screen but this was obviously not the case.
I have spent quite a bit of time researching screen costs, installation and value for money. I thought it should be a simple task as this is a basic bit of glass, nothing fancy, not even a tinted strip. To come up with a common figure has been quite confusing. My preference would be to have the screen replaced with one as close to my original Pilkington type screen as I can, and the correct rubber with no goop. Quotes have ranged from $140 for the glass with rubber, however the installer would not do the job, to $2100 with original glass and rubber from another installer with an installation wait of two months. One supplier told me that they can get the glass from the UK and it will cost $195 + GST but not sure of the rubber. Is this just the same Chinese glass that I can get locally? Yesterday a land rover dealer quoted $560 just for the rubber which was in stock and they could get a screen from Singapore but did not get back to me with a price.
I realize to many I’m a bit over the top but the Landy is in excellent original condition and I am after quality but don’t want to be ripped off.
    Cheers landychris

KLR Automotive in Sydney have this for $29:

Windscreen Seal, Defender/110 - KLR Automotive

I think it may need a filler strip. You'd need to ask Brad.

My new screen was replaced by windscreens O'brien as an insurance job.(one windscreen or headlamp claim per year allowed) It had a vertical crack that occurred when my daughter put her feet against the spot where there was a stone chip on the outside. The new rubber came from Karkraft. everything good and no leaks since. And they came out and did the job at my place which is 1/2 hour from town (Wagga) I don't remember the cost of the job.
