BTW my manual does not show the pushtod or how it is attached to operate the throw out bearing
Hi,
I have replaced the master cylinder and checked out the slave. Bleeding happens perfectly, but the clutch does not operate.
I noticed that I can move the pushrod in and out about 30 or 40mm. I am suspecting that is not right.
Here is a pic of the pushrod.

I can push it all the way back into the housing by hand. Is that a concern??
All contributions appreciated.

A history of why you replaced the master would help with diagnosis. Did the clutch fail? If so was it sudden? Has it just been replaced? Has the vehicle been out of service for a long time?

What John said. Have to say that my initial thought was that the clutch throwout lever has failed.

Thanks Tins and John,
Rebored slave and new master in 2018. 4000ks max since then. Constant very slow loss of fluid and lost full clutch operation a couple of tmes but a refill of fluid WITHOUT bleeding fixed it each time.
Then recently I got in it one day (it is garaged and not used a lot) and clutch wouldn't work....pedal just went straight to the floor....no resistance at all. Bled it and no resistance, pulled out the slave....it looked ok, put it all back and bled it with the same (non) result. Replaced the master and am about to install a new slave, but I looked at the movement of that push rod and decided that has got to be wrong.
Any thoughts?
I am afraid it does sound like a clutch fork failure. You may be able to see whether this is the case with a light and mirror through the hole with the slave cylinder removed.
The other possibility would be your original master cylinder failed and then an incorrect master cylinder or incorrect adjustment of the master cylinder pushrod.

SubscriberIf you clamp a piece of flat bar over the end of the slave without it being fitted to the bell housing ( take the rubber grommet off first ), you should have resistance in the pedal if the hydraulic side is good, give that a go.
Hi,
To close this out, I replaced the master and the slave. The slave was amore modern version and had diff threads to the original so i had to have a new line made to fit it. The clutch now works but I am going thru some pain trying to get the pedal adjusment right. The clutch grabs too early....the pedal has barely left the floor and it is engaged.
