Question Roof Lining Removal on a 2010 Defender 110?

    Guys...
According to the Auto Elect I've got a short in my lighting circuit somewhere where it goes up the RHS A pillar and into the roof. HE advised me that the roof lining will probably need to come out as well. To save myself some money I'm thinking about removing the Roof lining myself. Looking at it, it appears to be in 3 sections and I assume u need to start at the rear and move towards the front...

So, I'm enquiring as to whether there is any Tips/Tricks that I should know about before attempting this so I don't do any damage, etc

(BTW: any ideas as to the possible location where the short in the lighting circuit would most likely be?)

    thanks in advance...

    Hi Rob,
I've removed the roof lining in my 2013 defender 110 several years ago.
It's a real pain as from memory you have to take out the side covers down to window sill level, including both the windows in the back, side and rear.

In mine all of the wiring ran down the centre of the roof and picked up the interior lights until it hit the back wall, then some of it branched out to the speakers and down the hinge side of the rear door, to pick up the door lock.
From memory there was the wiring for the interior lights, the back door lock, speakers, and the switch confirming the back door was closed. I also had some unused plugs for the interior motion sensors that were not fitted.

I am pretty sure, but happy to be corrected, that the stop/tail/reversing lights run underneath the car.

    Cheers Glen

I'd start with the easy and double check the RHS pillar as this wiring can short with the 2 screws that hold the plastic cover on. Easy to pinch wires putting that on. Then start at the rear where the wiring goes into tail lights. Would be unlucky but not impossible to have a short in the middle of the roof.
