    Puma Engine “cup holder”

I have always wondered what the “cup holder” is for on the plastic engine cover of the puma diesel 2008 defender engine. Left hand side as you look into the engine bay.

Does anyone know what it’s really for?

Apparently the Transit van that the engine was created for uses a particulate filter in that position.

Doesn’t a particulate filter go in the exhaust.
Maybe an oil filter of some type, centrifugal, similar to TD5?
