    Puma exhaust manifold installation

    Hi all,

Just after some advice on installing the exhaust manifold for the 2.2 Puma engine in situ. Removal of the manifold wasn't too much of a pain but trying to torque down the bolt behind the accessory bracket on installation is not possible. Previously I've tightened this bolt as hard I could with two spanners but I would prefer to torque it properly this time.

Reason I've removed it is I'm rebuilding the turbo and thought would be good to ceramic coat it like I am with the turbo housing. Also, with rebuilding the turbo, it's recommended to renew the turbo oil feed pipe, which is also bolted behind the accessory bracket.

Therefore, I will have to remove the accessory bracket. To do this:
    • Is it possible to move the air-conditioning compressor without evacuating the air-con gas and disconnecting the pipes? I hope I can just unbolt it and move the compressor slightly to remove the accessory bracket.
    • I've heard that the alternator bolts are a pain to remove due to their length. Is this correct? If so, what is the best way to go about this?

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Cheers,
    Tim

Just did a youtube video on turbo replacement, at the end of it you can clearly see what I have removed to replace the exhaust manifold.
I also realised you cant really see the a/c compressor which is sitting on top of the plastic valve cover. its held there with a rope or stretchy strap.

unbolt and move up the a/c compressor
    remove fan
    disconnect top coolant hose
disconnect small coolant bleeder line and move towards firewall area
    remove fan shroud
remove furthest left belt idler wheel
undo small bolt holding air intake tube under wing panel.
    remove air box
remove intercooler hose bracket on alternator
    remove intercooler hose
remove alternator (leave bolts in alternator while removing)
place a block of wood on top of the front diff under the alternator for it to sit on so you can get to the plug on the back of it.
remove accessories bracket noting where the different length bolts go
    Regards

    Thanks for the information Daz!

I'm subscribe to your Youtube channel, so did see the 2.2 turbo video. This is actually what made me ask the question and was hoping you'd respond on here.

Good to know I don't have to evacuate the air-con gas and disconnect it all.
