SubscriberShould one by wary of buying a 110 with a replaced new engine?
I have found a 110 16MY Defender for sale. It's in very good condition however the owner "cooked the engine", ordered and replaced it with a new one bought from Landrover. And Landrover Campbelltown did the rebuild. Obviously has low km's due to the new engine.
Interested to hear the wise words of the 'experienced' on this forum in regards to this subject.
Thanks in advance

Supporterpeople who "forget" oil boggle the mind. That person is a good candidate for an EV.
isn't it a bit unfair to assume that because the PO didn't check the engine oil that his servicing of the rest of the vehicle is sub-par. Lets be honest, there is nothing on a defender that can't be replaced or repaired. Every defender will get you at the wallet. Be it an envisaged problem or something left of field. The reality, we fix the problem, forget it cost too much, forget that it left you stranded in town without a pub, and get on with smilling and waving. If you are put off by the fear of an unknown potential problem that may or may not ever materialise, defender ownership is not for you.
I bought a near new defender sight unseen from Victoria that i knew had been drowned in a dam in the ACT and written off on insurance. Not one problem has arisen from the drowning in the past 11 years. Lots of other problems, but none that can be rooted back to being under water up to above the rear window (based on the dirty water mark on the panel). Not learning from that experience, i bought another 2 defenders last year sight unseen. the price reflected the risk. they need work and money, but nothing is beyond those inputs. I'll swear and moan while i repair them, then smile and wave when they are on the road.
buy the defender, enjoy defender ownership, smile and wave at other defender owners. It's a simple rule.

SupporterI don't think so, he's got form!
If he never changed engine oil I find it unlikely that he'd bother with the other oils.
At the very least they are someone who doesn't care for the car very well. So it's likely to have other service items that that have been skipped.
As regards the rest, I think now that whilst you will have a few issues with a Defender, repair costs comparisons between them and most (Not all) other vehicles built since 2010 will show the defender to be much cheaper to work on.... That's because everything else has gone nuts with tech and difficulty to work on.
the "me too" movement was trial by and in social media. The replies in this post speaking against the PO, who is not identified and i do not know the identity, is no different to being tried by public forum without any of the relevant facts other than the engine blew because the oil level was not checked. i'm tapping out, the level of self righteousness is too much to bear.
