Question 10p TD5 Defender no battery charging

Observed an inconsistent charge lamp during driving. Checked main battery voltage, was 12.1v while driving. Uh oh.

Tested in the garage with a multimeter: same ~12.1v voltage across the battery terminals, and from the main alternator terminal to earth, with engine on and off. So it looks like there's no charge output from the alternator at all.

The lamp is steady on with the key in run and engine off, which is expected and indicates a working lamp connection.

Looks like an alternator replace/rebuild. So:

    * could it be anything else? A fuse I've missed, or a signal wire from the ECU?
    * Any auto elecs you recommend in north Brisbane/Brendale?
    * What would I expect to pay a) new and b) recond?
    * Any removal tips? I've just replaced the radiator and coolant so I'd rather keep that on. I have the workshop and haynes manuals.

Depending on the kilometres / age of the alternator, you could.

Replace the regulator and brushes if lowish k's, but if high or if it's the original then it's better to replace the whole thing as the vacuum pump and bearings will more than likely have degraded as well.

Don't be tempted to go cheap, get the Nippon Denso OEM

She's just over 300,000km, no books so no idea when it was last done. It looks pretty rough, once I have it out I'll post pics.
