Went chasing snow on the weekend. The kid's had never experienced it before, but being the start of the ski season here in Victoria, I decide to stay away from the crowds at the resorts.
So we went to Mt Matlock (1372m), Mt Selma (1457), and then one last run on the Jamieson Licola Rd up to Mt Skene (1570m), before it closes for Winter this week. Though you can use this road during winter by being part of a club and applying to the Mansfield council for a permit. It's just the boys in blue have gotten sick and tired of rescuing ill prepared motorists.
There was snow on both Mt Selma and Mt Skene, kids had a ball. I thought we'd see more 4wd's, with it being the long weekend. But I guess maybe the conditions put people off. Visibility was poor all day, fog and mist that just refused to lift. We stayed on the roads, as the tracks were just too wet, most of the mud came from all the melting snow up at Mt Selma and Mt Skene.
In fact the only two 4wd's we saw were 2 idiots up at Mt Selma. One in a Patrol, and a P plater in a Jeep. We passed them before the summit, on a side track. They were chucking donuts at the entrance to the track, severely chopping up the ground, causing damage that would take ages to recover. I guess these blokes are the reason most of the tracks are closed from this weekend on. Total disregard for their surroundings.
Anyway the kids built a snowman up at Mt Selma, and as we were settling down for a spot of lunch, guess who came around the corner?
As soon as the Jeep saw the snowman, he drove straight at it. He must've seen us at the last minute, either that or his girlfriend told him to grow up, cause he swerved and continued back down to the main road.
When we got to Mt Skene, the kids started building their second snowman over a tree stump. I didn't prompt them at all......honest! My wife asked them what they were up to, and they said they were building a "surprise snowman" in case the Jeep came back.:D

Hope you took pics and reported them ;)
Does snow ever fall in The Flinders? Some of those peaks are pretty high.
