    Gary,

I do not condone loading the roof more than the 90kg odd that Land Rover recommends, but I've been in situations in the past where is was unavoidable.

80 liters of diesel fuel in 4 jerry cans, a rooftop tent, and a couple of 15kg Pelican cases had to be carried on the roof rack due to unavoidable circumstance.

Weaving around the insane number of potholes on a standard Central African road, there was hardly any noticeable roll of the 90. Certainly no more than normal.

They are very tough little wagons...

    Roof top tent on

After playing around for most of the day my new roof top tent is fitted. Thanks John B for dropping by with some helpful advice on hinges and heights. The feather light needs to be packed up around 6mm if fitted to a windcheater roof rack this gives the hinges enough room to open correctly so there is no stress on the frame. I used some 50 x 6 mm hard rubber from Clark Robber to raise it just enough to clear the outer frame of the roof rack. Just waiting for the dual long range tanks to arrive and its almost finished. Will lash out on a shelf system and some LED driving lights next week.

Getting there huh Mike. Did Clark's charge you too much?? "Clark Robber". I'm glad you got it sorted so there's no pressure on the hinges and/or floor frame like there would have been.

Got my tent on and windows tinted now.

Window tinters do not much like doing Deefers! The guy at the shop showed me some of the posts on the tinter's forum. One tinting shop asked if anyone had any tips or traps for doing Deefers. Replies were like "start running now!". Many shops won't do the curved roof windows or will charge quite a bit extra to include those. I had removed the rear seats in mine and I think they were happy for that.

The Defender passed the cold weather test Pics taken at Guthega (near Perisher) 17.08.12, biggest 24 hour dump of snow since 2000 apparently.

Well the thought did cross my mind, it would have provided ample shelter until the igloo was finished
