255/85 tyre to big for the bonnet??

    Dudes,

Need opinions on mounting a spare wheel carrier on the bonnet of the 110, but it will be taking a 255/85 tyre.

Whats the general opinion here. Too big? No worries?

I'm concerned it will obstruct the forward vision too much.

Why? Might fit a tail gate and flap instead of station wagon rear door.
    Cheers

    Mick

Personally - biggest I'd go is 235/85 R16 - and that is getting close to being too large.

I tried my 255/85 2nd spare on the bonnet. Felt like driving a nissan or toyota and I only tied it on to try out, it would of been even worse with the proper mount! Cheers Cinders

Too big for my liking, you could roof mount it if you really need it on the vehicle.

I dislike the bonnet mounted tyre. Didn't Series IIA and III One Ton's have a 9.00x16 tyre on the bonnet though?

Reduces vision and the later bonnets don't have the strenghth so you need to brace them. With a TD5 you can only do that ontop by adding ckecker(no doubt some-one will prove me wrong). Legally too there is a maximum you can mount. One dealer told me once that the 5.5 inch rim with the 7.50 16 tyre was the widest they could legally fit but check with main roads. Pioneer tools look much cooler.
