Thread: Muddies - what size

My angle would be this.....
-Cooper STT and MTZ are from the same factory, same rubber compound and manufacturing techniques.........

-MTR, strong carcass, soft compound, will wear faster than the above....

-BFG, hard to say, don't have any experience with these......

I'm currently on Cooper ST 265/75/R16, 58K done so far, weekends 4wd, High Country few times a year and daily driver........1 new tyre so far on Warranty (pro rata @50K's $150----split sidewall...manufacturing fault) rest are about 60% thread left, but look like they had a hard life, lots of cuts, cracks and hairline splits everywhere........

I'll be facing the same decision soon and I'm leaning towards the BFG......

yes i am looking at doing the same thing
the best i came up with was the 265/75/r16 mtz at 4mm smaller they will keep everything legal

I have been going through the same thing I have had a thread going a few days ago "Defender Tyres???" have a look for some of the responces.

I am taking my time in making a decision and doing a lot of research. LR Brisbane said they used to deliver Defenders with 245/75R16's BF Goodridge's which made them look a bit tougher.

I am leaning towards something like the:

Mickey Thompson Radial Baja MTZ
LT265/75R16 10ply 123Q rim7-8 dia813
or
a bit bigger again:
Simex Extreme Trekker, The Centipede
32x9.5-16" 245/85-16" rim6.5-8.5 110N dia849 width268
or if I want to play it safe:
Goodyear MTR
245/75R16 are a awesome tyre I have had them before.

I am also considering either a slightly wider rim or adding a bit of offset to compensate for the slightly wider tyre. I am also looking at possibly fitting a Scorpian "Evolution Suspension Kit" this kit give you more suspension travel without raising the vehicle. 2" 's of extra droop.

I would stay with 235/85R16 because of warranty reasons. If you ever have bearing/hub issues LR could say the wider tyres placed undue stress on these parts.

And if you really need mud tyres you want the most open pattern possible.

Ok - thanks for the info - have stayed with the 235/85 and decided to put on the STT's again - past experience was good with them and the BFG new style muddie wasn't available.
