best answer? ask the dealer that you bought it from, or whoever will be doing the warranty work, they're the ones that have to do the inspection for a warranty claim

Warranty will not necessarily be void by doing any modification.

However, if that modification has been determined to be the cause of a problem then warranty might not cover that problem.
An example might be a suspension lift affecting driveline angles & causing a vibration.

Generally, an accessory will not affect warranty unless it's been poorly installed & affects the operation of the vehicle (cutting into a wiring harness maybe).

My 2006 110DC recently (last September) had to go in for a new gearbox under warranty...


At that time it had King Spring springs, Tough Dog dampers, QT arms, different prop, ecu remap, intercooler, egr removed, roof rack, tent etc etc...

Not a mention about any of it, simply changed the gearbox and gave me it back.

Ive come to the conclusion (as others have said) that it depends on the dealer and perhaps also the quality of the workmanship / products added.

Yeah - Scallops is out of touch for an unspecified period whilst they are on the road. He hasn't done any engine or suspension modifications though, and these are the two areas where I would be inclined to be careful.

I think it's fair to say that Land Rover recognises that the Defender is a bit of a "blank canvas" when it comes to aftermarket mods. You would really have to stuff it up or do something especially "back yard" to risk the warranty. Reputable accessories suppliers and installers do their own testing and usually back their products with their own warranties (hence the delay in many new bits for the 07 Defender). Like others have said though, as long as what you do doesn't cause a problem, you should be alright.

Some dealers are betting than others. I had a terible experience with the mob that I bought my car from, who shall remain nameless. Moving over to Scouse at Trivetts was a much better experience. Chalk & cheese.

Just to relay a couple of issues:

1. R380 5th gear failure claim denied because diff locks were fitted. Huh?

2. I have in writing two different excuses why the roof water leak claim was denied. First attempt was becuase a hole was drilled in the centre of the roof for an aerial. Second was because a spring lift was fitted. Honestly.

The time lost, & ill-will generated with the first dealer is unforgivable. But I'll say again, thank you Scouse & team!

Wouldn't getting the dealer to fit the accessories be the logical solution to the problem?
