I have the same issue .. I have to give it a wobble to see the line move ..

Does anyone else have difficulty telling the level in the radiator fill bottle on a TD5 Defender. The pink coolant is difficult to see through the plastic bottle and the bottle position makes it even more difficult to look into the top. It there another bottle available?
Cheers, Erich.

When you open the bonnet, instead of engaging the bonnet stay, fold the bonnet back against the windscreen frame. Make sure you close the dash vents first. This way you can get a good look straight down into the bottle.
Or if you are in a fairly dark area, turn a torch on and then place it against the bottle at the bottom. The light will illuminate the coolant and you will easily see the level. Try it, it works.
It is just one of those gripes. I have had Land Rovers forever and some things are brilliant and some aren't. This is currently one of the latter. Probably the best way is to lift the bonnet right up and peer in the top, as Foz and Andrew say. I will check out the torch. Cheers, Erich.

umm look in the top once... make sure it is right.
dip your finger in, see how wet it gets? file that away in the back of your brain for next time you want to check the level....
dead easy, quick solution - unless you lose your finger of course...
