They are not screws even though they look like it.
Just lever the centre bit up gradually with a flat blade screwdriver and the whole clip can then be pulled out.

    Thanks people.

Just to clarify I need to remove this panel to mount the head unit for the reversing sensors and to drill a small hole for the wiring. The head unit could be surface mounted but I figure it will be prone to being knock about.

Sorry - I was a bit busy and only now got to replying to this thread...

The plastic speaker panels are held by two screws on the bottom and one screw at the side which are not normal screws (as you suspected) but all-plastic, large threaded ones that can be removed easily with a regular Phillips head screwdriver. They come out very quickly as the plastic thread is very large - but it is ALL plastic so be careful not to break them.

The top edge of the pabel is held in place by DOUBLE-SIDED TAPE! That's right, regular double-sided tape on the front face which sticks to the rear of the side window trim surround. So you just have to push the panel back slightly to gently un-stick the tape then slide it out with a downwards and outwards movement.

I presume this is the photo you found...

And yes, the standard speakers are just screwed in from the front. I simply filed out the hole and screwed in some larger ones...

If I was more of a handyman and had time I would chuck out the plastic speaker panels altogether and make decent trimmed MDF panels to fit in there - and raun MDF all down the sides above the wheel arch boxes too for that matter.

Ya mean like mine I have MDF Boxes with Checkerplate sides holding Kenwood 6" three way speakers.

As a matter of fact I am contemplating putting another set of speakers (Alpine 6" component R-type) in there but up high in the corner, As I have discovered that when we pack the car to go away the speakers get covered and sound muffled. Another added bonus of doing this is I will then have something to attach my cargo nets to, but that's another story

    Cheers,
