I'm sure that's how I did mine. If not, I managed to squeeze in behind the fuel filter (which you could just remove to do the job). I know I didn't remove the light from the front.

You can get to the back of the headlights - but it is hard.
It took me over 30 minutes to put new globes in as you cannot see what you are doing and are doing it all by feeling. Attaching the retaining wire is fiddly while alsoi trying to hold the globe inplace. So many times I was soo close but because I had my arm and hand in a funny position I just could not get the wire hooked... took me about 20-30 goes!
You will benbifit if you have small hands - I don't.
Cover the radiator hoses with a towel if you have a hot engine. Your arm might be touching the hot pipes for a few minutes at a time.
If I had to do it again - I will find another route like sugested above.

After dropping that stupid unrestrained globe retaining clip off the back of the factory Wipac headlamps for the umpteenth time, I now get the battery drill with a phillips screwdriver bit and remove the headlamps to change globes. It is easier and much less bloodpressure.

Changing a bulb, I'd definitely remove the light... but Weeds original post 2 months back was just about the plug.

...you're right Derek, I get a rush of blood to the head thinking of that damn clip whenever someone mentions defender headlamps in a sentence...
