    Although, the examples you provide are all comparing German built vs SA built. Let’s be honest, nobody in the world - not even Toyota will come close to the quality of build out of Germany. I also doubt that companies like Volkswagen would stick with building vehicles in SA if build quality was a serious and continuous problem. They've been building Volkswagens in SA for decades.

    Some real world experience, comparing my SA built TD5 to the UK built Puma - I can see a remarkable difference in basic things like panel alignment, gaps and attention to detail. I let you guess which one is better ...

    That's interesting because SALLDHMS77A746113 was the MY07 Defender on display at the Melbourne Motor show early this year. The eighth digit is an S (Puma 2.4) while the 11th is still A (Solihull)

    All South African Built Defenders that came to Aus will have a "V" as the 11th digit. UK spec builds are as always an "A".
    I personally would only have a UK build spec....I have seen some doosy's.

    The 11the digit of mine is indeed a "V" and is from the Blackheath, South Africa, for 147 specification.

    If you go to Clifton Scientific Text Services, the Netherlands there is a utility there that will enable you to enter your VIN and find out all about your ride.

    I'm dyslecsix - the 11th digit is indeed an "A".

    I'm ex South African, and no way would I buy any vehicle built or assembled in South Africa. They have tried to keep up with quality control but can't. VW sales man once proudly said that the car we were looking at here in perth was built in SA, I smiled and asked if they could get us a German one
    Thats my 10 cents worth.
