The 08 Defender can have a speed limiter but it shouldn't be fitted (activated) in Australia. Its referenced in the manual and shows where the indication light appears.

Tunit and similar aren't the best solution and I doubt if they are available for the 08 Defender. Bell-Auto-Services in the UK does a switchable map for the TDCi ECU. As for what it does to fuel economy, don't know.

Turbo timer is a waste of money IMO. Best thing is to slow down and just let the engine idle for a while after a long stint.

No speed limiter on Aus spec Defenders Not that I've ever tried to find out the actual top speed mind you (Ahh - hundred and forty something - hem!)

I can't see the benefit of chipping the ECU. The Puma runs like a chipped Td5 anyway.

And I also wouldn't mess with a turbo timer. Many insurance companies won't cover your vehicle if one is fitted. It's seen as an unacceptable risk due to the fact that you effectively walk away with the engine still running.

Fit a Safari snorkle - essential in my opinion if the vehicle is going to be used off-road or even on road out side city limits

Had no problems with sand getting in the side mounted air intake and we've done quite a bit of beach work in ours.

Diesel has plenty of power to spin in the sand. Don't reckon it's worth getting it chipped, but then there's no such thing as too much power! Straight from the factory they are a good balance between power and economy.

Just got the dealer to fit the front mud flaps, and I have Mantec snorkel that I haven't got around to fitting yet ($500) ........

While the wheels spin in the sand? Oh yeah! The Traction Control is fantastic though

The side air intake is actually well protected and you don't get a lot in there. The main reason of the snorkel is to raise it for water crossings.

Having seen Safari, Airtec and now Mantec on Defenders I would actually go with the Mantec. The Safari is IMO over priced as is the Mantec if you buy it in Australia. Cost me 50% of the Australian price to get one from the UK. Very easy to fit. The really nice thing with the Mantec is it's almost invisible from the driver's seat and doesn't interfere with the mirror. The Safari is a lot wider, sticks further out from the vehicle and still limits the mirror positioning. The Airtec is even worse.

I guess Im used to my Gen 3 powered landrover and Ive always had v8s. They spray sand everywhere when working them hard and it gets in everywhere

The diesel is a new thing for me

The 130 doesnt have traction control but looks like a snorkel is the way to go anyway

For what it is

It is actually a well balanced car it terms of power and weight. Ill see when I throw my 3t trailer on the back of it how it goes

Tunit chips are availiable according to Perth 4x4 here in Perth Im just not sure whether its going to give me that seat of the pants feel of power or not

Ill probably just leave it alone

you must be takin the ****?? or you had a very slow chipped TD5?? you wouldnt catch me in a pink fit

My point was more like - I had a regular Td5, and if I had it chipped and it went like the Puma, I would have been quite happy. Sure, there's no more power, but the ability to pull right through the rev range is just lovely.

And sure, I wouldn't stand a chance against your weapon but then who would?
