    what to look for

Have been making enquires re another vehicle since my 300 tdi disco was written off. I Know where a 1994 defender with 170,000 on the clock is for $8000. What should i keep an eye out for in relation to possible defender problems.

    Timing Belt
Wear in axles/spiders (otherwise called drive flanges)
Rust in bottom of doors (esp rear doors)
    Hinges on cargo door

They are the big things. Pretty much everything else is the same as your old Disco.

    Cheers

    P.S - that's not a bad price either!!!

Coolant system isn't too bad or pricey in them. If it needs work then bargain him down in price for it. Biggest cost is the radiator itself. Viscous fan - use the XF/EA falcon. Hoses aren't that dear. Thermostats are fairly cheap etc.

No, cooling system components aren't expensive. I was really referring to the fact that the cooling system needs to be kept in good nik as overheating is one of the few things that commonly kills Tdis.
