Cant you lock it with a door open using the fob , then chuck the keys inside and slam shut the door

If you try to lock with a fob and a door open the horn sounds and that particular door will not lock.

If it is the same as our 06 model, you can lock with the FOB and unlock with a key, but the horn will sound until you use the unlock on the FOB to cancel the horn alarm.

On mine you can't lock the drivers door while it's open. It's the master for all the solenoids so that has been done to stop people locking the keys in. However if you hop in the passenger side, close the door, and then lock the car using the drivers door lock. You can then open the door on the passenger side and hop out. Lock it and close the door with the button pressed.

Note that if you try this with the alarm set you will set the alarm off.

If this is a Defender Tdci, the hand book says not to slam lock the doors. On my 200 tdi, I keep a spare door key in the engine bay and an ignition key hidden inside the vehicle. It is possible to open the bonnet by inserting your fingers between the bonnet and the top of the radiator panel. You just loop your fingers on the cable and pull. The bonnet will pop.
This is not possible on my 08 Defender as the cable is secured differently. You can reach it with your fingers but it will not pop the bonnet.

Can't do that with mine unless you lock the front while closed and then close the rear door.

I'm guessing by the lack of "I've looked my keys in my defender" threads that this is impossible. I can't lock the door on my 110 when its open, come to think of it I couldn't on my '89 county either...
