    Jimbo110's budget Salisbury shave........

I've pretty much gotten sick and tired of all the crap I've been getting from my jap truck lov'n mate's about how much of a plow my Salisbury is, so I decided to bite the bullet and give it a modest shave without loosing any structural strengh. I'm way too chicken to do it to my original diff, and since I want to be able to return it to standard if it all turned to poo, I bought a drum braked Salisbury for $90 off Trade me.

In the ad he said it was a bit rusty, being due to it being from an English import 110, all I can say is I'm very glad they dont salt the roads over here

All the rust is pretty much cosmetic or in the bits I was going to remove anyway. Inside it's all in great condition.

The dangly bits that get in the way.......

    No turning back now.....

Then the welding up of the holes, inside and out

I also welded in a couple of high tensile nuts back to back for the centre bottom bolt to replace the threaded hole I ground off (forgot to take a pic though). I then made up the rear cover with a piece of 60x12mm flat bar at the bottom to take the knocks and resist peeling back when rubbed over rocks and hopefully hold in the oil.....

    Looks rather empty under there.....

    Salisbury with a new profile..........

Clearance has gone from 232mm to about 252mm with my 285/75/16 tyres, front diff is 260mm

All work done at home with normal tools, cutting done with a 5" angle grinder, welding done with arc welder using rods for welding cast iron. The drum braked diff housing is identicle to the disc braked diff except for the bolt holes in the shock mounts for the disc rotor sheild, everything else is just bolt up. The drum braked hubs and stubs will now be heading over to my trailer to convert it to landrover wheels. One of the hardest parts of this job was the removal and installation of the entire diff assembly in the vehicle, I did it on my own with 2 jacks but it was far from fun..........Salisburys are bloody heavy
