Thread: Excessive Air Con Condensation

Hi,

Searching through old posts....this seems to be a reasonably common problem. I have a 2001 Defender, which up until recently only had the condensation issue around the vents on a humid day. Unfortunately the condensation issue escalated a couple of weeks ago, to the point where the fan casings are filling with water and spitting out copious quantities on every corner. I don't mean a drip here and there....it's pouring out. I now find myself having to stop every few km's so my partner can open the door and wring out the hand towel I have sitting on the floor.

The posts that I could find seem to mostly point to blocked drainage pipes. I have taken the car in for repairs on two occasions. The first occasion the drainage pipes were cleaned and checked for blockages with a long piece of flexible wire. Compressed air was then blown through the pipes. This had no effect whatsoever. I returned the vehicle a few days later, and had the cover plate removed, to check for any blockages higher up. To cut a long story short, after leaving the car with the technician for a day, and supposedly having the unit dropped out, the problem is as bad as ever. The technician's suggestions for fixing the problem were a) take a grinder to the mounts so the angle of the unit could be adjusted, and b) fabricate a second drip plate and drill another hole in the floor, neither of which really appealed to me.

The way I see it, something has changed/broken in the last couple of weeks, and if this can be reversed/fixed there will be no need for radical modifications.

So my questions are.............can anybody tell me what the most likely problem is?........and.......can anybody point me in the direction of a reliable air con wiz with LR experience in the Brisbane area (preferably Northside)?

Oh yeah..........it's the standard AMC unit.

That's what the guy in he workshop thought it would be............alas not the case, hence the suggested modifications.
