Thread: Defender internal fans.

Didn't know the internal fans actually worked

Mine just blows some weak breeze and makes a lot of noise.

The most common problem is the drain for the air inlet in the passengers side mudguard blocks up, and the water when it rains or when you wash the car, fills up the heater and fan motor with water, and the motor seizes or will only run (slowly) on full bore due to the tight bearings in the motor when it dries out.

I think you might be onto something here - I suspect they work quicker when at speed as air is been forced in through the air intake of the guard.

Were are the fans loacted and how do you axcess them.......so I can check the fan motor and bearings.

This is where you can get at it, remove the plastic grill on the passengers side guard........



Just stick your arm in there and spin the shaft. Thats the easy part, if it's tight, lubing it is another story

I saw them at Rovacraft for about $38. I think I'll be getting one soon, as I don't like the windscreen fogging up for the first 3 min of Demist after rain (or deep river crossings). For deep river crossings I think it would be easier to jam a piece of closed cell foam into the air ram, rather than try to seal the original vent.
