there's a place around the corner from my place V-Equip i think its called that has a bracket that clips in ...........
but from memory they aint cheap
Hi everybody I have pondered this question over the last 6 years of owning my 130 HCPU. How can one use that wasted space ie. the box cavity below the rear seats and the cavity behind them? The fitment of the rear seats means unbolting the bottoms or the top brackets to get to void underneath and it looks really useful storage its just not access freindly. There is also a large amount of room behind the seat backs and again its not user freindly. I have considered placing the inverter in behind the seat or a constructing a useful box to house equipment I take away rather than shoving stuff down from the top to remain there in a random state of (dis) organisation.
So has anyone used these areas and come up with some great ideas to improve the vehicle usability, photos would be great. Has anyone been able to make a easily detachable bracket so that the rear seats fold forward. Would love to see what others have come up with, I'm sure I am not the only one to ponder this.
Kindest regards
Garry

130's rule
Remove the factory retaining bracket at the uper seatback.
The seat can then fold forward and forward again.
Go to a wrecker and get a pair of seat locks that look like they will fit and make them bolt in... or dont. The box underneath will fit all spare hoses/ belts/ bearings/ air hose/ water hose/ recovery gear and odds and sods. i love the space that is easily available when the seats fold out of the way.

Ditto.
Actually I use the box underneath the back seat for work spares, and the 2/3 seat is almost permanently folded as that area then becomes the dogs bed.
The seats had already been 'undone' by a govt body.
The VHF is goinf to go behind the 1/3 seat back, ATM the spare hoses and belts are jammed there.
I don't know where my dad got these bits from but he convereted the fixed top seat brackets to a pull pin design. It looks like a converted Gate Hinge.
The long part bolts to the back of the chassis and the small part and hinge pin connects to the seat - stock locations. At the top of the pin is a keyring split ring so we can pull it out and a small wire gets placed into a hole in the bottom of the pin to stop the pin from lifting out. My Dad this way back when we bought the 130 new in 96. The under seat storage is used regularly.
I've found 2 90Ah AGM batteries and a large fusebox fits really well under the seats, and the UHF radio brick and Doof-Doof amplifier fit well behind the seats!

On my 130 I just removed the brackets on the sides of the seats to allow them to tip forward.
I have not worried about any locking set up , the passengers will be wearing seat belts and so it will not matter.
I have also fitted stainless quick release pull out pins on the seat pivot points so the seats can be very quickly removed.
With the larger seat removed my fridge sits over the storage compartment which can still be accessed via tipping the smaller seat forward.
The rear seat passenger gets the cold tinnes right beside them.
I find the small space behind the seats is a good place to carry any thing you may need in a hurry , like a snatch strap,or compressor hose
The compartment under the seat is large so things like all my recovery equiptment go there , with jumper leads.
My spare oil in a 4 lt container is carried on the RHS between the side of the body and the storage compartment/ seat.
On the other side my typhoon air compressor is permanetly mounted, so you just open the rear passenger door and the compressor and outlet are looking at you down beside the seat on the floor.
What I havent figtured out is how to fit a water tank in behind the cabin in the sloping space between it and the HCPU body.
Shovel, saw, axe. Spares and recovery stuff in the box under the seats.
And the half inch socket set that I only found a month ago when I opened it up for the first time in years.
Bugger of a thing to get to when you've got three baby seats on top of them.

I didn't know that the rear seats aren't meant to fold. Mine has an over centre style latch on each side to hold in place (I'll get some pics when I can - car is not with me at the moment) and when undone you can fold the seats up - very handy for the hounds when its raining or when the back is full of wood. I fitted two 6x9 speakers (much better sound than the landrover ones) behind the seats on a piece of mdf fitted between the two uprights.
I keep a few odds and ends (rope and stuff) behind the seat and spares and a few other bits that I don't need often in the box under the seat.
For reasons that are not exactly clear, Australian Design Rules apparently require the seat to be fixed, although the same seat is folding on the 110 wagon. It is possible the problem is the catch, which I think may be different on the 130 compared to the 110, and rather than go to the trouble of fitting a catch that does meet requirements, in light of the small sales of the 130, the Australian branch of the company has simply taken the line of least resistance and bolted it in place.
As is obvious from the above posts, most owners have simply unbolted it and fitted some sort of a catch. What I would do if I owned a 130. Particularly if you bought it second hand there would be no way you would know it was not that way from new, as it is obviously the way it was designed.
