perentie PTO winches
After narrowly missing out on a pto winch setup from a perentie on FleaBay recently, I was wondering, do they come on the market very often, and what would be a fair price to pay?

in general, perentie stuff is virtually impossible to get hold of unless you're in the army..... very few have actually been released into civilian hands, so there is 3/5ths of sfa available in terms of perentie specific parts

Bugger!
Okay, is there an equivalent setup available on the civilian market or do I have to compromise and go for a hydraulic setup of some sort?
cheers
steve.

Thomas winches produced at least 3 PTO drives for LT95 boxes. 1 for the Perentie (mounted under the box), 1 for the County mounted at the back of the box, and 1 for the Range Rover similar to the County. The County PTO drive shafts running to the front sat lower to clear everything. The Range Rover PTO does not fit a County because the shafts sit higher and hit the County floor from memory.

I would think the recent Ebay Perentie winch went for the price it did as it was missing a part that would be pretty well impossible to source outside the Army. The Thomas winch, is just as good the only thing is you cant have an overdrive as well as it uses the same rear transfer box position, whereas the Perentie comes via the "sump" plate.
Even a Range rover take off can be used but you need to nip away the floor plates a bit- assuming its going into a County. I did it no worries, about 150mm of lead sheet & sealastic.
Link about the Thomas winches is here.
